Extra Staff Allocated to Process Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance Applications

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Deputy Noel Coonan has welcomed the news that an additional eight members of staff have been allocated to clear the backlog in Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance 2011 applications.

The local Fine Gael TD has been making representations to the Minister for Social Protection asking that the situation be alleviated as it is putting huge pressure on families in North Tipperary and South Offaly who are still awaiting a decision weeks after their children return to school.

“In response to my representations, Minister Joan Burton has informed me that 38 staff were originally provided to process the claims with an additional 14 staff assigned in mid-August bringing the staff complement to 52. This number has now been increased to 60 staff with overtime also being worked,” said Deputy Coonan.

“Staff are working hard to clear the claims as quickly as possible and I am pleased to see that extra staff have been allocated which will undoubtedly speed up the process and provide answers for many constituents,” concluded Deputy Coonan.

Fine Gael TD for Tipperary North and South Offaly Noel Coonan has today (Friday) welcomed the increase in funding for North Tipperary County Council to help maintain roads over the coming winter months.

“I am very pleased to hear that the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar, has allocated an extra €1.25 million to help local authorities around the country with winter maintenance and keeping roads clear during harsh weather. The total being allocated nationally comes to €11.25 million, with North Tipperary County Council set to receive €305,616, an increase of €33,957,” said Deputy Coonan.

Many local authorities clearly struggled to keep main routes clear and gritted, much to the disgruntlement and disappointment of local people.

The local Fine Gael TD continued: “The additional money being allocated this year is being made available thanks to savings within the Minister’s Department. Sixty thousand tary County Council to help maintain roads over the coming winter months.

Monday, September 5th, 2011

Speaking following Sunday’s All-Ireland Hurling Final, local Fine Gael TD Noel Coonan complimented the Tipperary Team on an impressive performance saying although the Premier County was unlucky on this occasion “they did the County proud by bringing us as far as the final for the third year running.”

“The boys in blue and gold did us proud again by bringing Tipp to the final where they again showed striking hurling expertise. We may not be carrying the cup home to Tipp this Monday but it’s a huge achievement to again be in the top two hurling teams in the country. The Tipp team, managed by Declan Ryan and captained by Eoin Kelly, will undoubtedly receive a rapturous welcome home in Thurles this evening and deservedly so for the courageous battle they fought yesterday in front of thousands of proud fans,” said Deputy Coonan.
